Top Home Remedies for Pores on Face

Top Home Remedies for Pores on Face

The pores in your skin can get clogged with oil, dry or dead skin cells, and everyday dirt and debris. At times, the pores can clog when the skin is inflamed due to excess white blood cells.

It is very important to keep the pores free of clogs to prevent blackheads and acne. The skin loses elasticity as we age, making the condition worse. There are many ways to minimize the occurrence of skin pores. The market is full of products, which claim to offer relief—but why spend so much when the solution can be found in your kitchen shelves?

These remedies can help to reduce or diminish pores effectively and cheaply. Believe it or not, they work wonders!

Top Home Remedies for Skin Pores

Egg Whites:

Egg whites dramatically tone your skin and temporarily shrink your pores, according to Stephanie Tourles in her book “Organic Body Care Recipes.” Combine the white of a small, cold egg with 1 tsp. cornstarch in a mixing bowl, and beat with a wire whisk or fork until it's frothy. The mixture should not be lumpy. Apply a thin, even layer to your face, and lie down on your back for about 20 minutes, or until the mixture dries completely. Rinse with warm water, and repeat once or twice weekly as needed.

Baking Soda:

Baking soda has some antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that help in reducing complications like pimples and acne. Make a paste by mixing equal parts of this soda and warm water (2 tbsp each). Apply the paste into the pores and massage gently for about 30 seconds using circular motion. Rinse it thoroughly using cool water. It helps remove dead skin cells, grime, and other impurities. Baking soda regulates the skin acid content and maintains its pH balance.

Honey:

Honey is equally good for preventing clogged pores. It can reduce excess oil on the skin and tighten the skin pores. Plus, honey will help keep the skin hydrated.

  • Apply raw honey on the affected skin area. Massage it into the skin and leave it there for a few minutes. Then rinse it off with lukewarm water. Do this two or three times a week to prevent clogged pores.
  • Mix together three tablespoons of honey and two teaspoons of ground cinnamon. Apply the mixture on the affected area. Leave it on your skin for 20 minutes and then wash it off with lukewarm water. Follow this remedy once or twice a week to remove oil and dirt from your pores.
  • Alternatively, you can make a face mask with two tablespoons of plain yogurt and one teaspoon each of honey and olive oil. Mix all the ingredients and then apply it on your face. Leave it on for 15 minutes and then wash it off with lukewarm water. Use this face mask once a week to remove impurities and nourish your skin.

Papaya Facial:

Apply mashed papaya on the face. Leave it for 20 minutes before rinsing it off with water. It helps in toning the skin pores. It deeply purifies the skin by removing impurities.

Aloe Vera Juice:

Moisturizing the face with aloe vera juice helps to shrink large pores. The juice cleanses and nourishes the skin and removes oil and dirt from clogged pores.

Almond Meal:

Applying almond meal to your skin helps refine pores and diminishes their appearance, explains Lydia Wilen in “Healing Remedies.” Make your own almond meal by pulsing 1/3 cup almonds in a blender until you achieve a powdered consistency, or purchase almond meal at well-stocked supermarkets and natural health stores. Combine two parts almond meal to one part water to create a thick paste, and spread gently over enlarged pores in an even layer. Leave the mixture on for 30 minutes, rinse with tepid water and pat your skin dry. Repeat the treatment two to three times a week for the best results.

Herbal Compress:

Jude C. Todd, author of “Jude's Herbal Home Remedies,” suggests applying a compress made with astringent herbs to help reduce the appearance of large pores on the face. Put 1 tbsp. dried herbs or 2 tbsp. fresh herbs into a heat-proof container, and pour 1 cup boiling water over them. Cover and steep until the liquid reaches room temperature, about an hour. Strain the herbs from the water, and soak a cotton cloth in the liquid. Apply to the face, and leave on for about 15 minutes. Repeat once or twice daily. Parsley, burdock, thyme and lemon balm are astringent herbs that work well for treating large pores.

Parsley:

As a natural astringent, parsley can effectively pull toxins and other impurities contributing to clogged pores out of your skin.

Fill a bowl with parsley and wash it well.
Pour eight ounces of boiling water into the bowl.
Allow it to cool, then strain the liquid from the parsley leaves.
Soak a clean cloth in the solution.
Hold the soaked cloth on the affected skin for 10 to 15 minutes.
Follow this remedy once daily or every other day.

Bentonite Clay Mask:

Clay masks have been used for many ages to clear pores and help lighten the skin. Bentonite clay, like fuller’s earth, is extremely efficient in clearing pores. It is made up of volcanic ash. It is said to act like a sponge, sucking up impurities and sopping up extra oil from the skin. It is also one of the most effective home remedies for clearing black heads and unclogging pores. It has been known to help reduce acne as well.

Yogurt Remedy:

Apply plain yogurt to the pores and leave it for about 20 minutes and then rinse it with warm water. Repeat this remedy twice a week to reduce the size of the skin pores.

Cucumber Juice:

Mix cucumber juice with corn meal to make a thick paste. Apply the paste evenly on the face and leave it for 15 minutes, then rinse it off. The mask not only helps in treating skin pores, but also improves the skin texture.
